TITLING
To title a vehicle purchased from a Montana dealer, the dealer will mail the appropriate paperwork to our office. Please check with our office before the 40 day temporary is up to see if your paperwork is here. If it is not in our office, you will be advised to contact your dealer.
To title a vehicle purchased from an out of state dealer, the dealer will either mail the documents to us or give them to you.
To title a vehicle purchased from a private sale, you must bring in the notarized Montana title. If desired, a 40 day temporary can be issued if our office sees the notarized title or a notarized bill of sale.
To title an out of state vehicle, you must bring in the out of state title. If the title is being held by a lien holder, our office has a form that can be completed by you and sent to your lien holder asking that the title be mailed to our office. The vehicle cannot be titled and licensed in Montana without the out of state title.
